A LUXURY FAMILY CITY TRIP TO DESTINATION BCN IN BARCELONA
- — THROWBACK TO A BARCELONA CITY TRIP WITH OUR LITTLE ONE —
How time flies! Almost two years ago we went on this amazing city trip to Barcelona together with our 8 months old daughter. Today I’m throwing you back to our first travel adventure as a family.
♥
Does ‘having kids’ mean the end of going on luxury trips and relaxed vacations? I was desperate to find out! And so I booked a trip to Destination BCN, a luxury Boutique Apartment in Barcelona Spain. Our first abroad family vacation was a fact.
The alarm went on a Saturday morning at 04:00 AM. I was super exited – and also a teeny tiny bit nervous – about this first flight together with our 8 months old baby.
Going on such a trip was something I wanted to do from the day she was born. But, in order to travel with a relaxed mindset, I wanted all of us to be ready for it. And so I waited for the right moment. Some parents say it’s easier to travel when the baby is much younger, and of course it depends on the child, but I think it’s more relaxed to fly when the baby is at least six months old. Now – at 8 months – she doesn’t suffer from painful cramps anymore, she understands more, wants to explore everything and doesn’t sleep as often as before. Besides that, my husband and I were now also settled into our role of being a parent. More fun for everyone ;).
Before my daughter was born, we used to travel to luxurious destinations all over the world. And since the moment I became pregnant I wondered if our luxury travel style would still be possible. Luckily I can now confirm: Yes, it’s still possible! After a long and careful search on the internet I found DestinationBCN which offers amazing boutique design apartments in the center of Barcelona. Everyone who follows me on social media and reads whatiwouldbuy.com knows that I have this thing for luxury and design, and DestinationBCN perfectly combines the two. I bet you’ll fall in love with their interior design too! The apartments are decorated in a way that appeals to many of us. Bright spaces, high ceilings, clean white walls, big arched windows, wooden floors, vintage Moroccan rugs, design chairs and lighting… It’s all there!
Thanks to the amazing accommodation, the lovely sunny weather and – also not unimportant – a perfectly happy baby. We had the best time ever! Our gorgeous eclectic penthouse Marimon was situated on the top floor of a beautiful building, located on Barcelona’s famous street ‘Avenida Diagonal’ where you can also find a lot of high-end stores. The loft-like apartment had an amazing rooftop terrace which offered us great views over the bustling city life and Montjuïc hill. From our rooftop we were able to soak up the sun from morning till evening.
The kitchen was fully equipped (very handy when you’re traveling with a baby!), the bed was soft and had high-quality pillows, there was a nice rainshower with Malin+Goetz shower products and the rooftop terrace had an external sunroom (perfect for siestas!). A baby chair, baby bed and bedding were arranged on request and also the taxi from and to the airport was pre-booked. It was heavenly to experience such comfort!
Upon our arrival in Marimon we decided to do groceries in the area. And while our little one was sleeping in the afternoon, the two of us enjoyed the heavenly rooftop terrace with a glass of cava and some delicious tapas. In the evening we picked up some food at RAFBAR, a trendy cafe/bar located just one block away from the apartment. In the following days we explored Barcelona by foot. We walked all the way down to the beach. Shops are closed on Sundays, so this is a perfect day for a long stroll. On Monday we went shopping in the neighbourhood. On streets like Rambla de Catalunya and Avenida Diagonal you will find many nice Fashion boutiques, and for home decoration you must visit Natura Casa which offers a lot of cool interior design products. Our favourite place for a chocolate frappé and serrano ham sandwich was Jamaica Coffee Experience. If you’re a fan of pastries, Cup & Cake on Carrer de París is a must-visit. Their cream cheese toppings are to die for! Fancy natural and organic food? Try the organic mini market Celerí right across the Marimon apartment, or try the organic smoothie and juice bar Green & Berry at carrer d’Enric Granados.
I’m so glad we went on this trip! It proves we can still travel the way we used to. But whether or not you are traveling with a child, a stay at DestinationBCN is perfect for anyone who wants an Urban Chic getaway to the sun.
